A QUOTE YOU LIVE BY:
“It takes a village.” This is especially true when it comes to parenting. In this phase of my life, I don’t want my kids growing up thinking that mom or dad “do it all” because that feels unattainable. Society tells us we can and should do it all. I think it’s important for them to see that there are plenty of people who play a role in their lives and who contribute to their happiness and well- being. I think it’s important to have a supportive network of people. And in turn, I also think it’s important to be part of a village and to help others.
WHAT IS AN ORGANIZATION YOU’RE AFFILIATED WITH AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO YOU?
Feeding Nashville provides meals to those in need while also supporting local businesses. When the pandemic first hit and after a devastating tornado, my friend Taylin Lewan and I quickly realized that there was going to be a major need for food assistance. We also knew that local businesses and restaurants would be struggling to stay afloat. That’s why we decided to co-found Feeding Nashville with the support of Ryan Reisdorf and his team at Placemat. Within two weeks, our friends and the Nashville community rallied with us and raised enough money to feed 400 people daily for months. We initially thought it would be a temporary thing, but of course we soon realized the amount of food insecurity in our city, even without the devastating events. To date, we’ve fed 130,683 people, and on average Feeding Nashville makes 1,500 meals per week.
